Year 14, Day 279 (Discovery Leaves Kerbin for Laythe!)

Discovery undocks from Kerbin Spaceport!

“OK – I’m backing Discovery away from the Spaceport… nice and slow!”

-Jeb

“Reactors are powering up – looks like full power should be available!”

-Bill

Jeb activates the three Magneto-Plasma-Dynamic thrusters and Discovery takes off!

Everything looks good! We should be ready for the Cryo-Chambers!

-Bill

Jeb hops in…

Then Bill and Bob!

Freezing in 3….2…1…. “

-Bill

With a “ding!” the Discovery crew is frozen in stasis…when they wake up, they should arrive at Jool!

Discovery sails away from Kerbin – radio systems will allow for remote piloting, and monitoring of the crew!

“See you guys in a few years!”

-Gene

The three components of Discovery’s mission should all be in place by Year 17!

Year 14, Day 278 (Intrepid Launches Discovery Crew to Orbit!)

Intrepid blasts off from the Space Center, carrying Jeb, Bill, and Bob! Veteran KSEA pilot Edan is piloting!

The launch stage ejects, and Intrepid enters orbit!

“Almost there! Just a few more more manuevers and we’ll be at the Spaceport!”

-Edan

We’re there! Switching to rear view… taking us in!”

-Edan

Edan pilots the Crew Shuttle closer and closer to the station! This isn’t the easiest task, as the craft actually pilots in reverse, as the docking bay is at the aft of the ship!

“Almost there… almost….”

-Edan

The connection is made! Intrepid arrives at Kerbin Spaceport! Jeb, Bill, and Bob gather their equipment and head out to the Spaceport! As they head to the Discovery docking hatch, Bill catches a look at the ship from the Crew Habitat Cupola!

Wow! That’s one big ship!”

-Bill

Year 2, Day 16 (Discovery 2 Returns Home)

screenshot215.pngVal, on board Discovery 2, returns home from the first Mun orbit!  Landing just west of the KSC, some KSEA engineers are hopeful that some form of re-usable space craft might be possible, if it can be recovered so close to the Space Center!

Researchers begin pouring over the data brought back by Discovery 2, and the Kerbal Congress is extremely impressed by the feat!  Rumor has it monthly funding will be markedly increased in the near future!

Year 2, Day 6

screenshot208.pngVal arrives at Mun on board Discovery 2! After achieving orbit (a first!) Val brings the orbit in a little tighter to get a better look.

“Setting orbital periapsis to 11 thousand kilometers!”
-Val

screenshot210.pngVal conducts an EVA and gathers scientific data from Discovery 2’s instruments. screenshot212.png

“Ok – laying in the course home before this thing runs out of supplies!”

Year 1, Day 416 (Discovery 1 Launch!)

screenshot165.pngThe Discovery 1 rocket is rolled out to the launchpad – Jebediah will be piloting, with rookie space-scientist Bob on board to assist with research.  This will be Bob’s first mission in space!

Another first for the mission is the first Mission Patch! Symbolizing the adventure from Kerbin to Minus, and promising a future trip to Mun!

“Uh – so this is just the training simulator?  Right?”  -Bob

screenshot170.pngNot so much, Bob!  Discovery 1 lifts off!  screenshot173.png

After achieving orbit, Jeb aligns Discovery’s orbit to that of Minmus.  Then, after a short wait, Discovery 1 burns to Minmus! The trip will be just 6 days – all of Kerbin waits!

Year 1, Day 405 (Discovery Unveiled)

All of Kerbin is abuzz with KSEA’s release of the blueprints for the Discovery Rocket!

This revolutionary new design utilizes a new 2-Kerbal module (the Discovery Command Module), an advanced engine system (the new R-L 10 “Poodle”), and an entirely new rocket design that is entirely liquid fueled. This new design provides more control during launches and greater safety.

“I like how I can see out the windows the whole launch!” -Val

Construction starts immediately on Discovery 1, which will launch to Minmus.  The mission plan is to enter orbit,  and inspect the surface! Rumor has it the mission will be the first to feature a Mission Patch.  Oooo!
