Year 7, Day 264 (Jool Surveyor Pol Fly-By!)

screenshot100.pngJool Surveyor approaches Pol!

screenshot102.pngInstruments record that Goo Scans are… unusual to say the least. Tentacles grow up from the goo, reaching up, then break off.  Bizarre, but fascinating!

As the probe passes over Pol’s highlands, gravity scans indicate multiple layers on the world’s surface.

Electricity this far out is proving to be the mission’s main obstacle, transmissions require a great deal of the craft’s power!

The onboard multi-spectral scanner is also able to get the first close look at the surface! Future passes will hopefully add to the data and help create a full picture of the surface.

In all, a very successful start to the Jool Surveyor mission!

Year 6, Day 283 (Frontier 5 Laythe, Tylo Encounter!)

screenshot3.png

The Frontier 5 craft in orbit of Jool is instructed to maneuver so it encounters Laythe! screenshot4.png

If all goes to plan, the probe will soon do a flyby of Laythe… the maneuver should also allow for the closest ever flyby of Jool.  Sadly, the scientific equipment on Frontier 5 is quite primitive compared to the gravitational scanners and other equipment on more recent probes, however an analysis of the atmosphere, temperature, and pressure should all be possible. screenshot5.png

Frontier 5 moves closer…

Finally Frontier 5 arrives at its closest point to Jool!screenshot13.png

The first photographs of Laythe are transmitted back to Kerbin! The planet looks remarkably similair to Kerbin!

“Oh my – that looks just like Kerbin!  Astonishing!  In the distance you can see Tylo.   Just amazing… I can’t wait to visit!”

Frontier 5 moves in close and closer….

screenshot43.png

Until finally, the probe drops below 50km… but just barely!  The science transmitted on Laythe’s atmosphere is of incredible scientific importance, and has made Laythe one of the most intriguing desitnations for Kerbals in the future!

screenshot45.png

Finally, Frontier 5 moves on, leaving Jool and it’s amazing moon Laythe for future probes to investigate!screenshot50.png

Frontier 5 soars past Tylo, its sensors only able to record some basic temperature and pressure readings in the space near the moon – researching Tylo is a job for a future explorer!

Year 5, Day 92 (New Surveyor Probes Commissioned!)

KSEA commissions the development of several new Surveyor class deep space probes – Neidon Surveyor, Urlum Surveyor, Sarnus Surveyor, and the Jool Surveyor.  Like Duna Surveyor, these deep space probes are designed to map the surface of deep space bodies to allow a more scientific approach to exploring space!

Year 3, Day 274 (Frontier 5 heads to Jool!)

screenshot258.pngFrontier 5’s computer is instructed to commence its burn to Jool!  The probe will reach Jool around Year 6, Day 200, after a journey of 2 years and 370 days!

If calculations are right, specifically encounter Jool’s innermost moon, Laythe!  After the Laythe flyby, an attempt will be made to circularize orbit in the Joolian system.  Having never attempted such a thing, no one knows how it will go down!
