Year 5, Day 193 (Rescue Mission Near Sunset Airfield!)

screenshot1606.pngUh oh!  Radio monitors picked up a distress call from a plane – it looks like there was a single Kerbal onboard, but he might be injured!

“I’ll go get them!”

Edan blasts off in one of the X-5’s parked at the Space Center!

screenshot1611.pngThankfully the pilot, Givie, is unharmed!  She quickly boards Edan’s X-5!

screenshot1612.pngSadly, Givie’s aircraft is totally destroyed!  She took off from the Sunset Airfield, so Edan heads there to drop her off. screenshot1615.png

“Wow! I haven’t seen this airfield since I was a rookie!   This is a pretty short runway… the landing might be… tricky!”

screenshot1620.pngIt was a close one, but Edan sets the X-5 down at Sunset Airfield!   Givie climbs out of the X-5 and heads back to base…  looks like Givie’s going to be just fine !

 

 

Year 5, Day 137 (Pyramid Launch Complex First Test)

An Aurora Crew Rocket is ready to go at the Pyramid Launch Complex!  This will be the first test of the Mk. 6 Aurora Crew Vehicle, the most advanced iteration of the design to date. Jeb and Bill will fly up to the Kerbin Space Station, dock, then return!screenshot1588.png

The Crew Vehicle approaches the KSS.  The Mk6 also boasts improved RCS balancing, which should make the docking much easier and involve less guesswork on piloting!

Docking is a success!  The plan is to return Robart, Orlas, and Val to the surface in the Endeavor, and leave the Crew Vehicle docked to the station.  The newly refurbished Shadow Valley Complex will be used to refurbish Endeavor – if all goes to plan, the Shadow Valley Complex will be the new home for the Crew Shuttle program!

 

Year 5, Day 135 (Resupply Mission Docks At Mun With Unity Space Station!)

The KSS Resupply Vehicle has barely enough fuel to dock with Unity Space Station, but arrives nonetheless!  The automated vehicle starts transferring its stores of food and other supplies at once!  This should give Unity Space Station another 2 years of life!

Mission Control gives the “Go” for further mission operations, and the trip to the Munar Canyons should be ready in just days!

Year 5, Day 133 (Pyramid Launch Complex Opens!)

256x256-4KSEA is excited to announce the opening of the Pyramid Launch Complex!  The facility, located north of White Mesa, will, with any luck, become the new home of the Aurora Crew Vehicle program, providing a dedicated launchpad for these versatile crew rockets.

 

KSEA plans to utilize several sites around Kerbin in the coming year as the Space Program continues to grow!  The main VAB is planned to be used for the largest of vehicles, such as the upcoming Explorer 2 mission, and other massive rockets.

A test flight is scheduled soon!

Year 5, Day 132 (Oxygen Low on Unity Space Station!)

screenshot1582.pngOxygen is starting to run low on Unity Space Station, the research station orbiting Mun!  The supply craft sent to the KSS has enough extra supplies in it to resupply the station, however scrubbers and other technology to extend life on the stations is clearly needed.

Mission Control wants to delay any landings on Mun until the Oxygen situation is resolved!

 

 

Year 5, Day 114 (X-502 Development)

KSEA begins work on modifications to the X-5 design, with the goal of creating an planetary crew vehicle capable of moving not just the operating crew of the X-5, but also 5 passengers as well.  The current fleet of X-5’s is only capable of 2 crew, which has hampered logistics moving Kerbals around the world! Testing of the new vehicle is being carried out at the White Mesa complex!
