Year 7, Day 270 (Heavy Cargo Shuttle Resolute Refit Update)

HCS Resolute.png

KSEA releases plans for the refitted Heavy Cargo Shuttle (HCS) Resolute!  After initial tests Enterprise will be similarly refit.

Heavy Cargo Shuttle Refit Goals:

  • To improve flight characteristics both on launch and return
  • Upgrade the launch vehicle to provide more power.
  • Increase the launch vehicle recoverability.
  • Add cool lights.

Engineers and scientists are confident that all these goals will be met!

Year 7, Day 264 (Jool Surveyor Pol Fly-By!)

screenshot100.pngJool Surveyor approaches Pol!

screenshot102.pngInstruments record that Goo Scans are… unusual to say the least. Tentacles grow up from the goo, reaching up, then break off.  Bizarre, but fascinating!

screenshot103.png

As the probe passes over Pol’s highlands, gravity scans indicate multiple layers on the world’s surface.

screenshot105.png

Electricity this far out is proving to be the mission’s main obstacle, transmissions require a great deal of the craft’s power!

The onboard multi-spectral scanner is also able to get the first close look at the surface! Future passes will hopefully add to the data and help create a full picture of the surface.

In all, a very successful start to the Jool Surveyor mission!

Year 7, Day 263 (Explorer Heads Home!)

screenshot93.png

Kimmy, Dunwin, and Mitster all board Explorer 2, and wish Duna Spaceport farewell!

“It’s a shame we can’t stay!”

-Kimmy

screenshot95.png

Other Kerbals deserve a chance to explore Duna… we’ll be back!””

-Dunwin

screenshot97.png

Well I want to get back… I can’t wait to get my chance at flying that shiny new Super Duna Lander!

-Mitster

Explorer 2’s journey home will take 314 days!

Year 7, Day 139 (Resolute Blasts Off for KSS!)

screenshot49.pngMirphe, Gilian, and Sean launch in the Resolute on a service mission to the KSS!

screenshot52Resolute (which was recently given nifty navigational lights) is the first of two Heavy Cargo Shuttles operated by KSEA.  Due to a planning oversight on Station Life Support a Heavy Cargo Shuttle was chosen to carry an emergency life support mission to the station!

“This payload is pretty heavy, there won’t be any room in the fuel budget to spare this mission!”

-Mirphe

screenshot56.pngThankfully Resolute eventually arrives the station… and not a moment too soon!

“Wow – I forget how big the Heavy Cargo Shuttle is until I see it up next to the Kerbin Space Station – these are some large spacecraft being docked!”

-Mirphe

screenshot57.png

Success!  Resolute docks with the KSS, at the Utility Docking Port!  Station Crew immedeatly start moving supplies over to the station.

“Nice docking Mirphe!”

-Jeb

screenshot60.png

Resolute undocks, leaving the supply module attached to the station.

screenshot63.png

“Time to head home – call the Space Center if that module gives you any trouble!”

-Sean

screenshot67.png

Resolute screams through the clouds, heading toward the Space Center!

screenshot68.png

“Going pretty fast! Hold on everyone, this might be a bumpy landing!”

-Mirphe

screenshot69.png

Resolute touches down, and at the last moment veers slightly off the landing strip!

screenshot70.png

“Hmph!  Almost a perfect mission!”

-Mirphe

Year 7, Day 133 (Super Duna Lander Launch!)

screenshot41.pngThe Advanced Atmospheric Lander (the Super Duna Lander) blasts off from KSC!

screenshot44.png

The lander is being launched ahead of the next Duna Mission, and will arrive at the Duna Spaceport ready to use (hopefully!). screenshot45.png

The lander safely arrives in Kerbin Orbit, and starts its transfer to Duna – in 225 the the mission should arrive at Duna Spaceport!  screenshot47.png

“That’s my kind of launch – clean and no problems. Well done team!”

-Gene Kerman
