Year 5, Day 99 (Urlum Surveyor Launches!)

screenshot1558.png

Urlum Surveyor blasts off! The launch window for Urlum is quite close, 26 days away.  It will be a busy week for the Space Program – the Urlum Surveyor, Neidon Surveyor, and the Duna Surveyor are all scheduled for important maneuvers this week! Urlum and Neidon Surveyors will be blasting off to intercept their target worlds, while Duna Surveyor will perform a critical manuever to adjust its approach angle!

Year 5, Day 92 (New Surveyor Probes Commissioned!)

KSEA commissions the development of several new Surveyor class deep space probes – Neidon Surveyor, Urlum Surveyor, Sarnus Surveyor, and the Jool Surveyor.  Like Duna Surveyor, these deep space probes are designed to map the surface of deep space bodies to allow a more scientific approach to exploring space!

Year 5, Day 83 (Moho Surveyor Launches!)

screenshot1543.pngThe Moho Surveyor launches… with just barely enough time to spare, the launch window is only hours away!screenshot1545.png

Moho Surveyor will arrive at Moho in (hopefully) in 94 days!  KSEA has high hopes that the probe will be able to orbit the distant hot world of Moho!

So far the new class of probes has performed well, so identical probes are constructed for Neidon and Urlum.   A more complicated mission to Sarnus is coming in the near future, which may also utilize the new probe design!

Year 5, Day 66 (Moho Surveyor Announced!)

Construction starts on a new probe, Moho Surveyor.  This probe will be launched into an orbit of Moho, and hopefully begin mapping the surface!

The Moho Surveyor is essentially the same design as the Duna Surveyor, only launched atop the Sarnus-X rocket, in an effort to give the spacecraft the best chance to arrive at Moho with a signifigant amount of Delta V that will be required to enter orbit!

Year 5, Day 59 (MunBaseOne Life Support Mission!)

screenshot1521.pngA resupply mission to MunBaseOne is launched on a Sarnus V rocket!  This is the first time a resupply mission has been attempted to the base.  With supplies running short on the first Mun settlement, if this mission isn’t a success the crew will have to evacuate to Unity Space Station in orbit!

screenshot1522.pngThe mission will do much more than just resupply the station. With any luck the installation of oxygen and water scrubbers and purifiers will let supplies on the station last much, much longer.  Another item on the wish-list for KSEA planners is a better vehicle for delivering colonies to the surface of Mun.  The present design works, but is wasteful and tends to create a lot of debris!

The new module rockets down to the surface, then starts rolling along toward MunBaseOne!

“I see it out the window! It’s almost here!”

It takes some maneuvering, but the module gets into position…

screenshot1533.png

Then docks with the base!  The new systems should keep the base running for some time.  Glenica, Sean, and Bill all report the air is much easier to breathe!

Year 5, Day 39 (Aurora 17 Heads to Minmus!)

screenshot1502.pngSamner, Edan, and Shepley launch on board Aurora 17!   Edan is particularly excited, as this will be his first landing! This is the first launch of the overhauled Aurora Mission, utilizing a longer term habitation module, similar to that on the upcoming Explorer 2mission!  The purpose is to make space flight more comfortable, and to give crews experience on maneuvers and working environments similar to those in future planned deep space missions.
